As most everyone knows by now, I write romances in nearly every genre: contemporary, paranormal, gay, historical, and fantasy. My next series of blogs is going to offer readers an “Inside look” at three of my historical/fantasy romances. I’ll share a bit about the making of the book, some kind words from reviewers, and the book summary.
Let’s get started with A Most Unusual Princess. This fun and sexy novella is the first book in my “Royal Desires” trilogy. (The other two books are Dalton’s Temptation and The Pauper Prince.) Together, they make up an exciting series, but each story stands alone as a separate read. Why? Because when I wrote A Most Unusual Princess, I never expected I was writing a trilogy.
A Most Unusual Princess is a sensual novella about unruly and willful Princess Elara, and Dalton, the guard tasked with protecting her while she searches for a suitable husband. This story was the first erotic romance I ever wrote – and it was a lot of fun.
From the outset, we learn that Elara is an opinionated (and spoiled) young woman who is used to getting her own way. When Dalton innocently catches Elara doing something very unladylike, the Dalton-Elara love/hate relationship is born. I enjoyed writing Dalton and Elara’s story and fell in love with the characters from the outset. The book is a unique blend of humor, human drama, and sensual romance.
I never expected I’d visit with these characters again, but not long after completing A Most Unusual Princess, I knew Dalton needed his own book, so I wrote a sequel, Dalton’s Temptation. (But more on that in next week’s blog….)
Here’s the plot summary to A Most Unusual Princess and a few kind words from reviewers.
Princess Elara needs to find a royal husband, but claims that no man can satisfy her. Dalton, Elara’s special guard, finds her unusual behaviors charming—and enthralling. Dalton’s aloof manner intrigues Elara, and despite their differences, they share tender moments and intimate nighttime passions. Elara is heartbroken when her father chooses a “proper” husband for her—until she meets the mystery man.
What the reviewers say.....
“5 Coffee Cups! Bravo to Ms. Wilkins for writing a twist in the book that makes the reader want to continue reading until the end. The way Ms. Wilkins allowed the two lovers to explore their bodies for the first time was so hot, I doubt a fire extinguisher would have been able to extinguish their passion for each other. The combustion sizzles between the pages as Elara desires to be closer to Dalton. I loved the banter between the two.” — Cherokee, Reviewer, Coffee Time Romance
“8.9 rating! A Highly Recommended Book! A MOST UNUSUAL PRINCESS is a new erotic twist on an old beloved tale. The interaction and friendly bickering between Dalton and Elara made me laugh out loud at the characters. I truly enjoyed this romantic tale and would highly recommend this book.” - Aline de Chevigny, Inthelibraryreview.com
“4 Stars, Excellent! Ms. Wilkins has written a wonderful Princess fairytale, with humor, stimulating encounters, and sweet romance. The characters are well developed. The storyline is interesting and the sexual situations flow smoothly with the story.” - Polly, MayReviews.com
“A MOST UNUSUAL PRINCESS is an amusing book that will seize your attention from the first word. Elara is a woman who wants to get married on her own terms, not those set by her father. The growing attraction and love between Elara and Dalton carry this sweet story. Ms. Wilkins has created appealing characters that will touch your heart.” - Tewanda, Fallen Angel Reviews
