Kelli’s Quill Newsletter - Big End-of-Year Issue

Kelli’s Quill
Big End-of-Year Issue
December 2013

Hi everyone!
Wow, another year is winding down. It’s hard to believe that we’re on the cusp of 2014.

This month in the Quill, we’ll recap 2013 in case you missed anything. I'm also sharing a bunch of links to new interviews and guest blogs about my latest romance, Ultimate Night’s Delights.

Let’s start with romance, then head into horror...

In May, The Viking's Witch won a Gold IPPY Award for best romance ebook! Kelli went to NYC to receive her gold metal and pose for photos. This year, there were 5,203 total entries and 372 medals were awarded to talented authors in all genres. Kelli also posted a two part blog about The Viking’s Witch (and a few photos) on her blog.

Raven at Reviewing Vixens gave The Viking’s Witch 4 out of 5 kisses. Here’s what they had to say:

“A great read that will have you guessing right to the end of the book. I was literally tied into knots wondering what would happen next, if they would actually make it as a couple or if all they'd done would be for nothing. Two very interesting characters, very opposite and yet the perfect match for one another. Read this book.”

Visit the book's page on Kelli's site (www.KelliWilkins.com) to read the full summary, an excerpt, and more reviews!

Kelli’s 15th romance from Amber Quill Press, Ultimate Night’s Delights was released in September. It’s the third and final novella in a series that began with A Midsummer Night’s Delights and continued with A Midwinter Night’s Delights.

Although all three stories are connected, they each stand alone as individual reads. Fans of the first two novellas will find this one to be a satisfying conclusion to the series (which has gotten some great reviews).
Ultimate Night’s Delights
Julian and Annabelle are back for the final ball!

The Marquis of Demby’s Midsummer and Midwinter Balls changed Julian and Annabelle forever. Freed from their inhibitions, they now help other shy couples explore their sexual urges and hidden desires.

But life on Vincent and Sabrina’s estate is anything but tranquil. The notorious Duke of Blackwell has discovered the secret about the naughty balls and is out to destroy the marquis.

Vincent refuses to deny the rumors about the “anything goes” parties he hosts, and turns to his friends for assistance. Together, they devise a plan to defeat the Black Duke…and still find time for a few erotic games.

Two Reviews for Ultimate Night's Delights:

"5 stars! Lots of sexy fun!  I enjoyed following the adventures of Julian and Annabelle and in this book they're no longer the shy couple they started out as. Vincent and Sabrina, as usual are fun and sexy and they've taught Julian and Annabelle very well. Vincent's issues with his enemy, the Duke of Blackwell play out along the way, and lead to a very satisfying ending." - Nerdy Girl, (Amazon Review)

"4 stars! Awesome finale. I love the characters and the plan they come up with to help defeat the Black Duke. I'm glad that Julian wasn't an arrogant guy in this story, but a very concerned individual. I was a bit concerned how Julian and Annabelle seem to be sex slaves to Vincent and Sabrina, but at least Julian and Annabelle were able to help other shy couples. Really enjoyed the characters and hope maybe there could be another book :)" - Dawn, (Amazon Review)

Kelli is a Mistress of the Macabre!

Kelli’s horror story "Sometimes Monsters Are Real" was published in the Dark Moon Books anthology, Mistresses of the Macabre. More than 500 people submitted horror stories - but only 18 were chosen - and Kelli is thrilled to be part of this collection of great stories written by women.

To quote the editor of the anthology, “Kelli A. Wilkins is the author of “Sometimes Monsters are Real,” a story about a deal with the devil that didn’t turn out as expected. Not to mention, it is the only story to make the editor cry.”

Kelli is Part of the Big Bad Anthology Of Evil!
Kelli’s sci-fi story "The Con" was published in the anthology, The Big Bad Anthology of Evil. In this collection of speculative stories, the bad guys rule!  The “heroes” are anything but good – at least not in the traditional sense. This book is available in paperback and eformats.

Amber Quill Press will be releasing Wilderness Bride, Kelli’s historical romance, in late March. Look for a sneak peek coming soon!

Kelli’s second Medallion Press romance, Dangerous Indenture, is scheduled for a May 2014 release. This historical set in Colonial Pennsylvania blends romance with mystery. (She’ll be sharing more about that in January, so stay tuned!)

“Diamonds” A mystery/suspense short story is potentially scheduled to appear in Sherlock Holmes Magazine.

Kelli is also working on a new paranormal romance, a few horror stories, and a gay romance that follows up on her wrestling romance, A Perfect Match.

Thanks to everyone who answered last month’s survey. In response to reader replies, Kelli’s Quill is going back to being a monthly newsletter and will feature book excerpts, interviews (with me and my characters - yes they can talk!), writing tips, and more!

Have suggestions? Send them along! If you didn’t get last month’s issue via Mail Chimp, let me know & I'll resend it.

That’s all for this issue! I hope you enjoyed this recap. Next month, we start our “revamp” - look for an excerpt from Ultimate Night’s Delights, a Q & A with Kelli, writing tips, and more.

Happy Reading & Best Wishes for a Great 2014!

Get Started on Next Year, Now

Hi everyone!
It’s that time of year again. The Halloween decorations are packed away and the “holiday” music and “shop now” commercials are everywhere. Do you find yourself looking at the calendar and wondering “How is it already December? What did I accomplish all year?” If so, now is a good time to look back at what you achieved this year and start planning for next year. Evaluating your writing goals and setting reasonable action steps now will help you get on target for 2014.

Perhaps you took some time off from writing this year and want to get back in the swing of things. Maybe your writing muse went on vacation to Hawaii and hasn’t come back yet. That’s okay. It’s fine to take a break from writing for a while – but not too long. Writing exercises, journaling, and free writing story ideas are great ways to revive your motivation.

Everyone’s writing career and goals are different. Think about what you want for you. If you write magazine articles, are there any major publications you’re targeting? Start brainstorming ideas now, make a list of places to send queries, and check out their sites for their latest submission guidelines. (It’s also time to be thinking 3-6 months ahead and plan those summer stories!)

Write fiction? Have you found any new publications and markets? Signed up for online market newsletters? If you’re published in one genre (say, romance or horror), are you going to expand your horizons and write a different type of story?

Is the writing part going fine, but you need to develop your online profile and/or marketing? Explore writing-related websites and blogs, Yahoo Groups, social media groups, and advertising opportunities for your work.  Are your blog, website, newsletter, and author page(s) up to date or should they get a refresh for the new year?

The end of the year is also a good time to do some simple “housecleaning” and organizing. Go through old writing guidelines and throw out (or delete) ones that are outdated or not for you. Update your writing resume (you do have one, right?), and back up your files! Spend some time targeting your goals now, and you’ll be on your way to success as 2014 dawns.

So what’s on my agenda for 2014? My second historical romance from Medallion Press, Dangerous Indenture, is coming out in the spring, and I’m writing a new paranormal romance, mulling over ideas for another gay romance, guest blogging, and doing interviews about my latest romance, UltimateNight’s Delights.

Look for my big end-of-year newsletter on my next blog!

Happy Reading & Best Wishes in 2014!
